Would you like some social media marketing tips you can apply today? If you are a business owner who struggles with marketing your business online, you’re in the right place!
One thing I can guarantee about Social Media and Digital Marketing is that it will always be changing. Since my first experience online as a Gmail beta tester, almost 18 years ago, I think I have seen it all. And then something new pops up, or major algorithms change, or the rules change, and I’m back at the drawing board making sure I’m on top of it all.
If your budget doesn’t allow you to outsource your digital marketing, chances are you need some help. It takes a great deal of time to learn and create quality content, not to mention the task of posting, engaging, and analyzing your data. I hope these simple tips will help you get started on the right foot.
Tip #1- Have a Strategy
This might seem obvious, but in the rush to get something “out there” you can miss the first and most important step. Use your Business Plan, your Branding Guide, your Mission or Vision statements to identify, in simple words, what value your business brings to the marketplace. Then take that and create one or two strategies for getting that value to your perfect audience. This is one area where an experienced consultant can really provide value.
Tip #2 – Know Your Audience
Also, if it’s been a while since you gave some serious thought to your target market, now is the time to do it. Don’t assume you already know all about your customers. In our fast-paced environment, things change quickly, and customers change right along with them. Social media is, first of all, a social platform. So be social! Give your prospects something of value. Every time you sit down to create your content, have that audience firmly in mind and speak directly to them.
Tip #3 – Choose One or Two
If your time is limited, you can’t be everywhere. You can’t have a significant presence if you spread yourself too thin. Where does your target market hang out online? Pick one or two platforms and leave the rest alone.
Tip #4 – Be Consistent
Have you ever visited a website, been impressed, then clicked on their social media icon? How do you feel if you get there and there’s nothing? Or whatever is there, is months, or even years, old? If you can only post once a week, then only post once a week, but do it every week. Your audience will appreciate knowing what to expect and this will give you credibility online.
Tip #5 – Use Great Content
I’ve written entire blogs about content and content marketing. But the bottom line is, you must create good, original content and curate highly shareable content. If writing isn’t your thing, you may want to hire an expert. Finding shareable content for your audience can sometimes be a challenge. I recommend you use feedly.com for a constant stream of content of all types.
